POMPANO BEACH, Fla. -- Winn-Dixie's Miami division here reported fair success with a recent in-and-out promotion of Flintstones-themed products at its 127 stores. The eight-week event featured self-contained shipper displays at the front-end of the division's stores and ran through Dec. 28. Although the promotion didn't set any sales records, the Winn-Dixie division "may take a look at running another Flintstones-themed promotion" since the licensed characters remain an appealing tie-in for children, said Terry Walsh, director of marketing and public relations.

Items in the line were priced between 99 cents and $9.99. The two best sellers were a Fred Flintstone doll priced at $9.99, followed by a Modern Stone Age digital watch at $5.99, said Walsh.

The product assortment also included the following: 8-inch Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm plush dolls at $7.99; 32-page hard-cover, color-illustrated Flintstone Stone Age Fairy Tales and Nursery Rhymes at $3.99 each; Flintstone baseball caps at $5.99, and stickers at 99 cents.

Walsh explained the promotion was run as a "Power Buy," which represents a "large quantity purchase at Winn-Dixie" that is "sold at a price held at least four weeks or longer at stores."
