MONTVALE, N.J. — The Food Emporium, A&P’s New York City-based grocery chain, has signed on as an official sponsor and has been named the official gourmet specialty store of the 2008 ING New York Marathon, A&P officials told SN. Now in its 39th year, the New York Marathon is widely known as the largest and most spectacular marathon in the world, with thousands of runners hitting the streets through the city’s five boroughs for the 26.2-mile race. As part of this sponsorship, The Food Emporium will hold a three-week promotion in all 16 Manhattan stores, allowing customers to take advantage of various discounts on products involved with the event, such as Barilla Pasta, Poland Spring water and Emerald Nuts, and to participate in a sweepstakes offering race-related prizes. On the Nov. 2 race day, Food Emporium will also set up a “cheer zone” outside of its BridgeMarket store on 59th Street, which marks mile 16 of the race.
