SAN ANTONIO — Home and body makeovers are common. Now, the “goodness” makeover has arrived, courtesy of H.E. Butt Grocery Co. here.

The “H-E-B Goodness Challenge” will give three families the chance to shape up with a variety of awards:

  • A free three-month family membership to Baptist HealthLink wellness and fitness center.

  • $100 a week in H-E-B gift cards to buy healthy food.

  • Nutritional counseling from an H-E-B pharmacy.

  • Nutritional advice and cooking lessons from an H-E-B nutritionist.

  • Health supplement advice and guidance from H-E-B's director of healthy living.

  • Free physicals, health screenings, medical advice and monthly visits throughout the challenge from Baptist Health System, a provider of health care in San Antonio and South Texas.

Three winning families will be announced in March, and will then begin a three-month shape-up challenge. Their experiences will be chronicled in the H-E-B Goodness health and wellness magazine, and also in the San Antonio Express-News.

“We look forward to seeing the progress they make as they take on the challenge,” Pablo Rodriguez, H-E-B's promotions and marketing manager, said in a statement.

Entry forms are available at H-E-B business centers and pharmacy counters, as well as online at heb.com/challenge.

Participants are asked to submit a family photo, plus a 75-word essay that asks why their family should be selected for a “goodness” makeover.

A panel of representatives from H-E-B, Baptist Health System and the Express-News will select the winning entries.

The challenge was officially announced last month, when representatives of the three sponsoring companies gathered at the H-E-B Plus store. Also present was a family of four, who worked out in the store with jump ropes, an exercise bike and free weights to demonstrate the fun a family can have getting healthy together.

“We take a great interest in the health and well-being of our customers, and this is one more way in which we hope to inspire them to meet their goals for a healthy future,” said Dya Campos, H-E-B's public affairs director.
