BRAMPTON, Ontario — Loblaw Cos. here is promoting its T&T private label goods at stores across Canada to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The year of the snake begins Sunday.

Loblaw stores are featuring T&T items, including crisp crackers, dumplings, pineapple cakes and Chinese-style pastries. T&T Supermarkets is an Asian specialty chain acquired by Loblaw in 2009.

"Over the years I've seen how open Canadians are to embracing a variety of diverse cultures and traditions," Cindy Lee, chief executive officer of T&T Supermarket, said in a statement. "Since food is an integral part of important heritage and cultural celebrations, Chinese New Year is the perfect time to experience traditional Asian dishes with family and friends."
