PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway continues to build its Facebook following by offering exclusive savings to those who “like” its page.
The latest offer came this past Monday with a Facebook coupon for $1 off Safeway’s private-label Open Nature chicken sausage. The offer was valid for 24 hours only.
Safeway generated excitement about the offer prior to the launch.
“The countdown begins! In less than one hour we will post the exclusive coupon. Get ready,” Safeway wrote Monday morning on its Facebook page.
The offer came after several other Facebook-exclusive coupons. In April, Safeway generated social media engagement with a Facebook-exclusive “Mystery Sale.” Three days prior to the launch, Safeway announced on Facebook that it would offer a product for free in the next few days. No other details were given, except that it featured a picture of a coffee cup. The offer was for a free 24-gram (0.8-ounce) sample of Gevalia house blend coffee.
