Albertson's Adds VP Posts

tson's here has named two veteran executives to new positions as part of a new retail operations team. Effective Feb. 2, Ronald D. Walk will be executive vice president of retail operations and Carl W. Pennington will be executive vice president of corporate merchandising. Both men will report to Richard L. King, who will become the chain's president and chief operating officer Feb. 2, as previously reported. Walk, 52, is currently senior vice president and regional manager of the company's Midwest, north Texas, south Texas, Rocky Mountain and Utah divisions. He has been with Albertson's for 33 years. Pennington, 57, is currently senior vice president of corporate merchandising. He has been with Albertson's for 32 years. The company also said Allen R. Rowland, 51, senior vice president and regional manager of Albertson's operations in Idaho, Oregon, western Washington, the Inland Empire (eastern Washington and Montana) and the Southwest (Arizona and New Mexico), will leave the company to pursue other opportunities. Albertson's also named three division-level executives to the posts of senior vice president and regional manager: William H. Emmons, 46, currently vice president of the north Texas division; Dennis C. Lucas, 48, vice president of the Oregon division, and David G. Simonson, 49, vice president of the southern California division. Company officials told SN Albertson's will not determine until early January which regions each of the three new senior vice presidents will head.

H-E-B Appoints Senior VP

SAN ANTONIO -- Scott McClelland was named senior vice president of marketing by H.E. Butt Grocery Co. here. He succeeds Robert Neslund, who has left the company.

McClelland joined H-E-B in March 1990 as vice president of store operations in central Texas. His most recent title was group vice president of general merchandise, pharmacy and home, health and beauty.

Prior to joining H-E-B, McClelland was employed in sales and marketing capacities with Hostess Frito-Lay in Canada.

Neslund joined H-E-B in 1991 as senior vice president of marketing. He was responsible for developing the chain's category management program and launching and growing its private label. He was also involved in the design of store formats.

American Taps VP of Strategy

SALT LAKE CITY -- American Stores Co. here has named Meredith Anderson to the new post of vice president of strategy. In that post, Anderson is involved with strategic planning for positioning American's overall business. She reports to Kent Anderson, chief operating officer.

Meredith Anderson was vice president of public and investor relations. Succeeding her is Judy Barker, who was in a public relations capacity with Unocal in Los Angeles. Barker reports to Teresa Beck, chief financial officer.

VP Resigns From NAWGA

FALLS CHURCH, Va. -- The National-American Wholesale Grocers' Association here said that Patrick B. Haggerty has resigned as vice president of marketing and communications.

Chris Caldwell, NAWGA's director of marketing, has been named to succeed Haggerty on a temporary basis. A permanent successor is to be named later. Haggerty joined NAWGA earlier this year after working for two years as a speaker and consultant on grassroots and citizen advocacy issues. He plans to return to that work.
