CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Dollar Tree Stores here has named Gary Philbin chief operating officer. He had been senior vice president of stores since December 2001. Philbin had previously been chief executive officer at Grand Union, until its purchase by C&S Wholesale Grocers. Prior to Grand Union, he had been executive vice president of operations and merchandising at Cub Foods, a division of Supervalu, and before that senior vice president of merchandising at Waldbaum's, a division of A&P. He also held various positions in store operations and merchandising over a 20-year career with Kroger Co. beginning in 1973.
INDUSTRY VETERAN HERMANNS JOINS PARK CITY
PARK CITY, Utah — Park City Group, a provider of inventory and labor optimization software for retailers, last week said retail industry veteran Robert P. Hermanns has joined the company as senior vice president and a member of the board. He will be responsible for U.S. customer relations and corporate development. Hermanns brings to the positions more than 40 years of experience in retail and wholesale grocery operations; he is the former president, chief executive officer and vice chairman of the board of directors at Associated Grocers, Seattle, and the former chief operating officer at Weis Markets, Sunbury, Pa. Prior to joining AG and Weis, Hermanns spent 30 years at American Stores Co. Additionally, he has served on the board of directors of Food Marketing Institute, the Western Association of Food Chains and Western Family Foods.
O'MALIA MOVES TO TRUSTPOINTE CONSULTING FIRM
INDIANAPOLIS — Danny O'Malia, former president of Indianapolis-area O'Malia's Food Markets, has joined Trustpointe here as vice president and chief customer service officer, bringing to the job his experience in customer service for O'Malia's since 1975. He reports to Tim Roberts, president. Trustpointe provides consulting services regarding sales and sales management skills, and is now expanding into customer service training. The family-owned O'Malia's chain was bought in 2001 by Marsh Supermarkets, Indianapolis; Marsh in turn was acquired last October by private equity firm Sun Capital Partners. Prior to the acquisition, O'Malia had served as chief customer officer for Marsh-owned stores.
