SAN ANTONIO — H.E. Butt Grocery Co. will give away free reusable shopping bags on Earth Day.

The “H-E-B Earth Day Bag Giveaway” takes place on April 22 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All those who drop five plastic shopping bags into storefront recycling bins will receive a coupon for a free, special-edition H-E-B Earth Day reusable bag. There’s a limit of one bag per customer.

In other Earth Day news, H-E-B is promoting a recycling program in which students can collect plastic grocery bags and earn up to $1 for every pound. The collected bags are recycled into trash bags that are sold at H-E-B.
