WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Lowes Food Stores is readying for the launch of a local-food club.
Shoppers can choose to receive produce from local farmers for one, three or six weeks from June 8-Sept. 8.
Each box contains six to 10 produce items that weigh at least 12½ pounds. Each box includes farmers' history, location and recipes.
“The Lowes Foods Locally Grown Club offers the opportunity to buy summer produce in advance showing your commitment to support local farmers,” Lowes said in promotional materials. “The more we sell now, the more time they can spend on their farms and with their families rather than worrying about selling their products.”
A one-week program costs $29 per week; three-week, $27 per week; and six-week, $25.
Members will receive a weekly email when the farmers determine the contents of each box. Boxes will be available for pickup at the store every Saturday. Shoppers can sign up for the program at www.lowesfoodscatering.com.
