NCR Converts DVDPlay to Blockbuster in Safeway

NCR Corp. announced here yesterday it acquired DVDPlay, which operates approximately 1,300 DVD rental kiosks in the U.S. and Canada.

DULUTH, Ga. — NCR Corp. announced here yesterday it acquired DVDPlay, which operates approximately 1,300 DVD rental kiosks in the U.S. and Canada.

The acquisition brings with it the conversion of DVDPlay kiosks to Blockbuster Express kiosks throughout store divisions of Pleasanton, Calif.–based Safeway stores.

NCR said it expects to operate approximately 3,800 kiosks by the end of the year. Terms of the deal were not disclosed

NCR’s acquisition of Campbell, Calif.-based DVDPlay expands its reach into states such as California, Colorado and Illinois, where NCR said it expects to further increase its Blockbuster Express presence.

Since the beginning of the year, NCR has pursued an aggressive growth strategy through several acquisitions and technology updates to capture more market share with its DVD rental kiosks.
