The National Grocers Association recently presented U. S. Senators Roy Blunt from Missouri, John Boozman from Arkansas, and Mitch McConnell from Kentucky its Champion of Independent Grocers Award. The award is given to lawmakers who have worked to advance pro-growth policies and workable solutions for independent grocers and wholesalers.

"Together independent, community focused retailers and wholesalers are a vibrant industry player in America's economy, and we applaud Senators Blunt, Boozman, and McConnell for their work to support commonsense legislation that will keep the independent supermarket industry moving forward," said Peter J. Larkin, President and CEO of NGA.

The award recognizes members of Congress who have demonstrated support for policies that advance and strengthen the independent supermarket industry. The awards were presented to each lawmaker by their NGA member constituents during the NGA government relations committee's fall meeting, held on Wednesday, September 10, 2014.
