Safeway Orders Fresh Food Sanitizing System

PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway here last week completed an order to install the Sterilox Food Safety System companywide by the end of 2009, according to PuriCore, Malvern, Pa., provider of the system. The system is used to rinse fresh food products and sanitize food contact surfaces to prevent cross-contamination of infectious pathogens such as E. coli and Salmonella; it is employed in crisping, misting, cut fruit, bakery and seafood programs, said PuriCore. “The use of Sterilox furthers our commitment to rigorous quality and food safety standards,” said Jerry Noland, group vice president, quality assurance and consumer protection, at Safeway, in a statement.
