LAS VEGAS — A team of students from St. Joseph's University won first place in the annual Food Industry University Coalition Student Case Competition here, with a team from California State University, Fresno, coming in second.

The St. Joseph's team won $8,000, while the Fresno State team received $2,000.  The two schools were the finalists in a contest that asked students from several universities to address a real-world issue impacting the industry, which this year involved suggesting ways that Chief Super Market, a 12-store independent operator based in Defiance, Ohio, could "delight customers with great food and experiences."

The competition took place as part of the annual National Grocers Association Show here.
