SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Big Y Foods has for several months participated in the early adopter program for a retail audit software application, Encapsulon Assessment, which is being launched to the retail market today.

The application, available on a software-as-a-service basis from Wren Solutions, Atlanta, is designed to optimize operations, address problem areas, and correct issues in a timely manner to reduce shrink.

The system “has streamlined and simplified our audit process dramatically,” said Mark Gaudette, director of loss prevention for Big Y, in a statement. “The ability to audit all procedures, policies, programs and training is vital to our business.”

Maureen Fuller, Big Y's loss prevention field manager, added that the application, used on an iPad, “automatically gives me a snapshot of performance across stores once audits have been completed."

Big Y operates 61 stores in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
