Family Dollar to debut updated app, part of 'digital transformation'
The discounter said it hopes advertisers, as well as customers, are drawn to its new digital experience.
Family Dollar is unveiling a refreshed app next month, the first phase of what the discounter called a “digital transformation.”
The new app includes a reimagined user interface, better coupon management, a product locator and weekly ads, the Dollar Tree-owned retailer said in an announcement Friday.
“The launch of our new Family Dollar app is one more step in the digital transformation currently underway at Dollar Tree and Family Dollar,” CIO Bobby Aflatooni said in a statement. “We are investing across the enterprise to make shopping with us even easier and more enjoyable. The redesigned Family Dollar app reflects the customer-centric approach we’ve applied to our digital roadmap to improve the shopping experience for our loyal shoppers and new customers alike.”
Early next year, Family Dollar plans to debut in-app e-commerce, personalization capabilities and a refreshed rewards program.
Digital consultancy Publicis Sapient has been selected to lead the app redesign.
The digital transformation is geared toward potential advertisers, not just shoppers, the retailer said.
“We believe this new user experience will not only appeal to our customers, but to brands who want to promote their products to our millions of customers through Chesapeake Media Group, our retail media network,” Dollar Tree Chief Marketing Officer Emily Turner said in a statement.
Dollar Tree last month reported that a pressured consumer and ongoing theft led to decreased margins during the second quarter. Food and beverage sales, though, increased more than 11% during the period as the retailer expanded its assortment of $3-$5 refrigerated and frozen items.
