CHARLOTTE — Harris Teeter here said Wednesday that its newest store in Portsmouth, Va., set to open on May 9, will include several energy-saving features.

The store, located in the Churchland Marketplace center, features a white reflective energy efficient roof; glass doors on dairy, package meat, beer and packaged produce cases; LED lighting on frozen food and dairy case doors; low-flow faucets; non-ozone depleting refrigerant; motion detection lighting; energy management systems and heat reclamation systems.

It will be the fifth Harris Teeter in the Tidewater region and the 209th in the chain. The company said it would make a $15,000 donation to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia as part of the grand opening ceremonies.
