Raley's Implements Software to Monitor Expiration Dates

Raley's plans to use the Date Check Pro system to manage expiration dates at all of its stores after a successful pilot in the Sacramento, Calif., area. 

The platform is an improvement to Raley's previous system, which required extensive team member training and an auditing process to dispose of expired items, the company said. 

Date Check Pro streamlines the process by providing real-time updates and notifications on close-dated inventory, which also helps reduce the risk of human error and allows the retailer to recoup savings on soon-to-be expired items, the company said.

In the 18-store district pilot, the retailer saw a 15% reduction in known expired shrink.

Additional benefits include better classification of shrink as expired loss rather than unknown loss, standardized methodologies to manage category/SKU specific inventory weekly, and visibility coupled with accountability into store level execution, according to company officials.
