ShopHero, operator of a white-label grocery e-commerce platform, has named Robert Christian as its new CEO. The industry veteran, who has more than four decades of experience in the grocery and high-growth technology fields, succeeds founder Matt Garner, who will remain with the company as chief technology officer and chairman of the board.
“ShopHero’s mission has always been to equip every grocer with the technology necessary to keep them highly relevant and competitive in the rapidly changing face of modern retail,” said Garner. “We are now at an inflection point where we need to embrace an executive with the unique skills and abilities to take the company to the next level on the path leading to the fulfillment of our vision.”
Robert Christian
Christian was previously executive for Procter & Gamble, Johnson & Johnson and dunnhumby. He most recently led the go-to-market strategy for the restructuring of MyWebGrocer, now known as Mi9 Retail.
ShopHero offers an omnichannel retail technology platform that it said levels the playing field between smaller grocery retailers and big-box industry leaders.
“The shootout between Amazon and Walmart has been fueled by billions of dollars that are simply not available to the mid-market and smaller retailers,” said Christian. “To bridge the gap, ShopHero has developed a highly sophisticated, yet cost-effective, solution that allows small to mid-sized retailers to seriously compete while seeing superior return on investment. We have learned well from the missteps made by earlier e-commerce vendors and offer a best-in-class suite of technologies and services for the small to mid-sized format marketplace.”
