Supermarket News has announced that it will partner with market research firm Ipsos to publish the results of the “2024 Grocery Ecommerce Experience Report,” which will highlight the top retailers excelling at online grocery and brand execution and offer a closer look at online grocery shopping behaviors driving change across the industry.

The report, which will publish at the beginning of 2025, will explain what it takes to create the “perfect” online order—which includes analyzing which pickup and delivery attributes are table stakes, determining key differentiators and delving into other factors driving ecommerce performance.

“Since the online retail boom during the pandemic, digital ordering has become commonplace for consumers, who have come to have higher and higher expectations in terms of excellence within online grocery,” said Chloe Riley, executive editor for Supermarket News. “It’s a critical area for growth in grocery and we’re excited to partner with Ipsos to offer these insights.”

Using data from the consumer study, the report will measure all aspects of select grocers’ delivery and pickup experience according to consumer opinion. The report will measure how well major brands across the U.S. are performing on critical KPIs.

Brands featured in the study include Kroger, Walmart, Target, Albertsons, H-E-B, Meijer, Food Lion, and others.

Additional brands interested in participating in the study should contact Brad Christian, head of strategic growth for Ipsos Channel Performance, at [email protected].

“As more American consumers adopt online ordering, their preferences and demands continue to shift. So we’re delighted to be partnering with Supermarket News to share the operational and experiential insights that brands need to navigate an evolving marketplace,” Christian said.

Walmart and Target topped last year’s list of high-performing ecommerce retailers, with several traditional supermarket operators, including Albertsons, Food Lion, and H-E-B, also performing well in certain aspects of their pickup and delivery services.
