Wakefern Food Corp., Keasbey, N.J., partnered with Locai Solutions for the launch of its CookIt app, which combines customized menu planning and food purchase with a single click. The app is available at Connecticut ShopRites under a pilot at shoprite.com/recipeshop and will be available at The Fresh Grocer later this year.

CookIt provides shoppers with personalized recipes, ingredient recommendations and meal costs based on their online shopping carts. The app considers dietary preferences and seasonal ingredients when making personalized recommendations. It also provides the price of ingredients needed for each recipe. Customers can choose from nearly 500 CookIt recipes.

“The CookIt technology powers our Recipe Shop to send customers delicious and practical recipes based on the pantry staples they are already shopping for in-store. The technology simplifies meal planning and makes recipe shopping easier and more cost effective,” said Steve Henig, Wakefern's chief customer officer.

The recipes are currently available to customers in Connecticut and will expand to all ShopRite locations and The Fresh Grocer stores within the next four months. The ShopRite Recipe Shop features hundreds of recipe ideas, with more to be added throughout the year.
