WASHINGTON — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration yesterday formally listed the hypochlorous solution produced by Sterilox Food Safety equipment as an approved food contact substance, and as a food safe sanitizer for rehydrating or rinsing fresh produce, including leafy green vegetables. Produced by an electrical current running through salt water, the solution is designed to mimic the anti-microbial hypochlorous solution that helps suppress pathogens in the human body, and is highly effective at killing bacteria, viruses and spoilage organisms including E. coli, Salmonella, Staphlococcus, Listeria, norovirus, avian influenza, yeast and molds.
