WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Hy-Vee here is planning to launch a circular ad marking American Heart Month in February to draw awareness to cardiovascular disease in women.

The effort — tying in with the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” campaign — will feature nutrition information, shopping tips, and heart-healthy recipes from five female Hy-Vee chefs. The five are Monika Sudakov of Bettendorf, Iowa; Norma Reni of Independence, Mo.; Staci Stengel of Yankton, S.D.; Traci Reed of Moline, Ill.; and Cyd Koehn of Hy-Vee’s corporate headquarters here. Each chef is pictured preparing a heart-healthy dish, with ingredients, cooking instructions and nutrition facts printed in a recipe card format.

Hy-Vee, known for its in-store dieticians and the winner of SN’s Whole Health Enterprise Award, operates 232 stores in eight Midwestern states.

“Dietitians have a lot of knowledge about foods that can foster health, but the chefs have that special ability to take those healthy ingredients and turn them into something delicious,” said Julie Gieseman, a dietician at one of Hy-Vee’s stores here, in a prepared statement.
