WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — NFL star Nate Kaeding and Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson will be among the speakers at this year’s Exercising Your Character festivities, sponsored by Hy-Vee, the Iowa Sports Foundation and Character Counts.
Nearly 8,000 fourth- and fifth-graders from 77 schools are registered to attend the May 4 celebration of youth fitness, sportsmanship and good character.
In addition to hearing from the speakers, students will engage in 30 minutes of aerobic activity, and receive a free Hy-Vee Triathlon T-shirt and a healthy lunch. Schools are provided with a transportation allowance to help cover the cost of buses.
“This is one of the programs that I’m most excited about,” said Randy Edeker, president and chief operating officer of Hy-Vee at last month's SymphonyIRI CPG & Retail Summit. “One of the best ways to move our company forward is to help our customers move their kids forward in the right way.”
