Going beyond their in-store efforts, ShopRite just went through their first their Healthy Holidays program, designed to help shoppers eat better Thanksgiving through New Year's.
The program is thorough—signage, of course, in-store sampling and recipes galore—and appears in all media channels: in ads, on the web, in social media and, of course, on their app.
Food Dive reports “people like to indulge over the holiday season, but they’re not always happy with the after-effects of doing so. According to a recent study by Cornell University that examined consumers in the U.S., Germany and Japan, people gained an average of 1.3 pounds between Halloween and Christmas. Getting rid of that extra weight, researchers found, took as long as five months.”
Much less than the reports we saw over the period where the news media touted that people are gaining 5 to 10 pounds over the holidays.
ShopRite and Hy-Vee in particular have made an extraordinary commitment to helping their shoppers understand nutrition and improve the quality of their diets. In this time of the year, we give thanks for these two retailers and the scores of all the retailers who are doing the same. To see just what they are doing, log on to retaildietitians.com.
