Davis made his comments at the ground-breaking for a commercial center in Villahermosa where the Sam's will be built. He said the new Sam's, which will be slightly more than 100,000 square feet, represents an investment of about $15 million (50 million new pesos).

Cifra's first 10 Sam's Clubs average about 98,000 square feet.

Since Wal-Mart and Cifra entered their joint venture, the two companies have opened 25 stores together. This year another 35 to 40 Mexican stores are scheduled to open; 100 stores are expected to be in operation by the end of 1995.
