Fleming Names Unit President

has been named president of Fleming International here, a division of Fleming Cos., Oklahoma City.

He succeeds Steve Moll, who has left the company to pursue other interests.

Epperson has spent the last two and a half years as director general of Gigante-Fleming, a joint venture between the U.S. distributor and Grupo Gigante, Mexico City. The partnership has opened five SuperMart price-impact stores in Mexico over the past two years.

In his new position, Epperson reports to Mark Batenic, senior vice president of operations. No successor has been named to the joint-venture post.

Moll came to Fleming through its acquisition of Malone & Hyde, Memphis, in 1988. Prior to becoming president of Fleming International in May 1993, Moll had served as president of Fleming's Miami division.

Fleming International is responsible for exporting food products. It ships a variety of foods to supermarkets in the Caribbean and Central America, primarily Nicaragua, and also sells a small amount of private-label items to customers in Japan and Korea.

Randalls Appoints VP/District Manager

HOUSTON -- Randalls Food Markets here has named Ray Del Franco vice president and district manager for its stores in the Houston area. This is a new position.

Del Franco was executive vice president of operations for AppleTree Markets here. At Randalls, Del Franco reports to Joe Livorsi, senior vice president of sales and merchandising.

Scott Dyer and Dale Pawlik have been named vice presidents and district managers for Randalls in Austin, Texas. Each supervises nine stores. These are new positions. Dyer and Pawlik report to John Sullivan, district vice president in Austin.

Dyer has been a store director for Tom Thumb Food & Drugs in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for the past 17 years. Pawlik has been a store director since 1980.

Kroger's Boehm Succeeds Dufek

CINCINNATI -- Kroger Co. here last week named William T. Boehm vice president of logistics.

Boehm, who was vice president of grocery procurement, succeeds Donald F. Dufek, Kroger said. Dufek, as reported, announced his intention to retire at the end of the year after 32 years with Kroger, the nation's largest supermarket retailer. Dufek's title is senior vice president of logistics.

Boehm is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to improve the efficiency of Kroger's distribution. He reports to Michael S. Heschel, senior vice president of information systems and services.

Boehm joined Kroger in 1981 as a director of economic research and commodity analysis. He was named vice president of corporate planning and research in 1986. Prior to joining the retailer, Boehm was a senior staff economist with the Council of Economic Advisers, Washington.

No successor has been named to Boehm's former position.

Albertson's Taps 3 Executives

BOISE, Idaho -- With the retirement of James Kinder as vice president in charge of Max Food & Drug operations, Albertson's here has turned responsibilities for overseeing the chain's warehouse store division over to three directors of operations. Kinder had overseen the 43 Max stores from a base in Long Beach, Calif. Tom Hoover has been named director of operations for the 25 Max units in southern California. He was director of operations for Max's Denver division. Succeeding him as director of operations for the 11 units in the Denver division, based in Aurora, Colo., is Robert Frisch, a former district manager. Max Campbell continues as director of operations for the seven-unit Max division based in Irving, Texas. All three executives report to Ron Schiff, senior regional vice president in charge of Max Food & Drugs, based here.

California Growers

Adds Executive VP SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Gene Sharp has been named corporate executive vice president, a new position, with California Growers Corp., a private-label marketing company based here.

He was also named to the company's board and will report to C.A. Perrucci, chairman and chief executive officer.

Sharp was president and chief executive officer of Affiliated Food Stores, Keller, Texas, which liquidated in 1993 after filing for Chapter 11. Earlier in his career he worked for Red Owl Food Stores and Supervalu, both in Minneapolis, and Hinky Dinky Supermarkets, Omaha, Neb.
