LAUREL GROCERY PROMOTES GRACE TO NEW VP POST

LONDON, Ky. — Laurel Grocery Co. here has promoted Tom Grace to vice president of merchandising, a newly created position, while Jerry Keller has been named to take his place as director of meat operations. Grace will be responsible for grocery, frozen, dairy, meat, bakery and deli operations, including those departments' advertising efforts. He will report to Bob Kirch, executive vice president and chief operating officer. Keller, who reports to Grace, has a background as a meat specialist and supervisor at independent retailers.

FORMER PENNEY CEO NOMINATED TO WAL-MART BOARD

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Allen I. Questrom will stand for election to the board of directors at Wal-Mart Stores' annual shareholder meeting in Fayetteville, Ark., June 1. Questrom, 67, was chairman and chief executive officer of J.C. Penney Co. from 2000 to December 2004. Prior to that, he served as chairman, CEO and president of Barneys New York; chairman and CEO of The Neiman Marcus Group; and chairman and CEO of Federated Department Stores. He is a partner at Lee Equity Partners. Questrom is standing for election to Wal-Mart's board for the first time.
