Count Uber Eats in on The Kroger Co.’s expansion of online ordering and delivery for floral and sushi items.

Kroger said Tuesday that more than 1,400 stores across its retail grocery banners have launched floral and sushi delivery of orders placed through the Uber Eats app or online marketplace. Customers can order Bloom Haus floral bouquets for Uber Eats delivery now, while sushi ordering and delivery via Uber Eats is set to become available on Thursday.

The selection of fresh-made sushi available at Kroger Co. stores through Uber Eats includes rolls and combos, dumplings, poke bowls and bottled sauces, among other items. All orders placed on Uber Eats will be prepared and packed in-store by Kroger Co. associates, with Uber Eats handling last-mile delivery to customers’ homes.

“Kroger continues to bring customers additional ways to enjoy their favorite fresh products with zero compromise on convenience or value,” Stuart Aitken, senior vice president and chief merchant and marketing officer at Kroger, said in a statement. “Now with Uber Eats, our customers have more options to quickly and easily order a California Crunch Roll for dinner tonight or send a fresh, premium floral bouquet just to say, ‘I’m thinking about you.’”

In support of the new service, Kroger and Uber Eats are offering 50% off (up to $30) customers’ next Bloom Haus floral order over $25 through May 19, using the promotional code MOMDAY50. A discount of 30% (up to $25) also is available through June 30 for sushi orders of more than $15 via Uber Eats with the code GETSUSHI. Kroger added that the Bloom Haus flowers and sushi selections will be available on UberOne, Uber Eats’ membership program, where discounted delivery and service fees will be applied at checkout.

“Finding the freshest, highest-value treats—even for delivery—can be time-consuming. This new curated collaboration with Kroger across floral and sushi makes it easier than ever for people to treat themselves and others on-demand,” stated Christian Freese, head of grocery and retail for the United States and Canada at Uber. “Uber Eats helps to make life a little more effortless, and we’re happy to be working with the Kroger Family of Stores across the country to save time for what matters most—friends, family and loved ones.”

The rollout of floral and sushi online ordering and delivery with Uber Eats comes over four months after Kroger kicked off the same service through DoorDash at more than 900 stores serving fresh-prepared sushi and over 1,600 stores with floral departments. The launch followed a pilot of sushi and floral ordering and delivery, in as soon as an hour or less, via the DoorDash app and online marketplace in selected markets last fall.

Then in February, digital hospitality platform provider Olo Inc. reported that Kroger deployed the Olo Rails module to about 1,600 locations to help manage third-party online delivery orders for sushi and floral items. Part of Olo’s software-as-a-service offering, Rails connects third-party marketplaces to a merchant’s e-commerce platform to streamline operations through one integration, enabling the synchronization of menus, pricing, location data and item availability between retailer systems and third-party sites.
