MARSHFIELD, Mass. — Services were scheduled here Tuesday for Patrick E. Roche, a co-founder of the Roche Bros. grocery chain. Roche died May 26 at age 83.

Roche founded the Roche Bros chain with his brother Daniel “Bud” Roche in Roslindale, Mass., in 1952. The company operates 18 supermarkets today and remains operated by Pat Roche’s sons Rick and Ed. Pat Roche was a longtime member of the Massachusetts Food Association and an honoree of its hall of fame.

He was known for philanthropic efforts, including a $20 million donation to his alma mater Boston College in 2010. The school named its Center for Catholic Education after Pat and his wife Barbara.
