Stop & Shop Holds Healthy Kids Summit at Ballpark
On Tuesday at Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox, Stop & Shop hosted its second “Healthy Kids Summit,” which aims to educate families on nutrition and exercise information to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

BOSTON — On Tuesday at Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox, Stop & Shop hosted its second “Healthy Kids Summit,” which aims to educate families on nutrition and exercise information to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
The free event, which drew more than 200 local residents and customers, onsisted of a 30-minute panel discussion and audience trivia game that incorporated key facts on nutrition, exercise and a balanced lifestyle as well as simple tips and techniques to stay fit.
The panel was moderated by Julie Menounos, Stop & Shop’s first in-store nutritionist, and included suggestions from Red Sox left fielder Daniel Nava (right); Joann Donnelly, executive director of healthy living at the YMCA of Greater Boston; Elizabeth M. Ward, the Hood “Answer Mom;” and Dr. Huy Nguyen, medical director of the Boston Public Health Commission.

The panel session was followed by a Zumba fitness routine led by Monique Rogers from the YMCA of Greater Boston along with a health fair including healthy snacks and refreshments in the State Street Pavilion.
Nava shared tips on how he and his teammates stay healthy and fit both on and off the field. Before a big game, Nava said he fuels up on protein, fruit with honey and plenty of water to hydrate. To maintain strength and recover after a workout, Nava and the rest of the Red Sox stock up on foods from all areas of the MyPlate federal guidelines, including salmon, chicken and vegetables.
