MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu on Friday said it has named Steve Jungmann as its new executive vice president of merchandising, filling a position that had been vacant since the departure in October of Duncan Mac Naughton, who left Supervalu to become chief merchandising officer at Wal-Mart Canada. Mac Naughton’s title at Supervalu was EVP of merchandising and marketing.

Jungmann, 47, most recently was senior vice president of consumer sales and marketing at Solo Cup Co., Highland Park, Ill., and before that spent a year as senior vice president of sales at Spectrum Brands, another CPG company. Before joining Spectrum Jungmann spent 20 years in a variety of positions at Kraft Foods. He will join Supervalu in early February and report to Craig Herkert, chief executive officer and president.

“Steve is the right person to lead Supervalu’s merchandising teams as we look to grow top-line sales,” said Herkert in a prepared release. “His track record of understanding and leveraging consumer behavior will be invaluable as we continue our focus on becoming America’s Neighborhood Grocer, and I’m excited to have him join our team.”

In his new role at Supervalu, Jungmann will lead all of the company’s merchandising activities for its retail banners (excluding Save-A-Lot), including the private-label program.
