AUSTIN, Texas — Whole Foods Market has set up a webpage to manage its new electronic gift card offering. Visitors to www.wholefoodsmarket.com/giftcards can purchase and send the virtual tender via email or text message, reload an existing "card" or schedule recurring reloads.

Recipients can either print their e-card or display it at the register on their smart phone. For a limited time, customers who sign up for a $100 auto-reload schedule using their American Express card will be given a bonus of $10 on their first reload.

An additional $5 will be earned every third reload through the end of the year.

"Whether it is for a college student several states away or a friend across town, you are one click away from sharing Whole Foods Market with friends and family," said Chris Jensen, gift card team leader for Whole Foods, in a press release.
