Squadle, a workflow automation company that helps multiunit operators simplify complex operations and streamline food safety, has launched Squadle for Grocery to support the growing takeout and prepared meals business by providing operational compliance, food waste tracking, equipment calibration and temperature management.

According to NPD reports, in-store dining and takeout of prepared foods from grocers has grown nearly 30% since 2008, and more than 40% of Americans buy prepared foods from grocery stores.

“Grocery stores have recently become one of the most complex retail environments to manage. In addition to the traditional grocery business, retailers are preparing and selling custom-to-order and pre-packaged foods, which creates a lot of overhead on grocery operations,” a Squadle spokesperson told WGB. “Squadle for Grocery helps to streamline and simplify operations for a consistent experience at the store each day.”

The customizable Squadle platform includes:

  • Digital workflows, which enables grocers to digitize their paper-based manager playbooks, checklists and compliance forms to ensure higher completion rates, leading to more efficient operations and better customer experiences, and offer clear visibility into task completion and compliance for both managers and team members.

  • Shift management, including pre-shift checks, equipment calibrations and shift notes. Managers can monitor compliance and completion rates through an online dashboard, mobile app, real-time alerts and automated daily emails.

  • Remote temperature monitoring for walk-in freezers and refrigerators to help ensure foods are kept at the proper temperatures to ensure food safety.

  • Compliance time control, which helps track and monitor the food once it is properly cooked or removed from a refrigerator to ensure it is not kept past its “throw away” time.

The spokesperson for Squadle could not share which grocers are currently using the platform. In a release, however, it said it works with multiunit operators, convenience stores and retailers. Squadle’s services include proprietary digital checklists, patented sensor automation and machine vision technology. Squadle Checklists has stored more than 1 billion records and completed tasks, while the ZeroTouch technology has measured more than 40,000,000 Bluetooth temperatures, it said.
