Loblaw Promoting Local Produce Harvest

In an effort to offer more local items to shoppers, Loblaw said it is offering between 150 and 180 Canadian produce items at its stores until Sept. 12.

TORONTO — In an effort to offer more local items to shoppers, Loblaw here said it is offering between 150 and 180 Canadian produce items at its stores until Sept. 12. The program addresses consumer research showing that 72% of Canadians prefer the taste of Canadian-grown fruits and vegetables and that 86% prefer to buy Canadian produce when given the option, according to Loblaw. Loblaw, which said it purchased $750 million (Canadian) worth of Canadian produce in 2007, is promoting the program with a series of television ads featuring local farmers countrywide.
