SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill Monday designed to restore the state's Container Recycling Program and Fund to solvency through June.
The bill, which was supported by the California Grocers Association, is expected to help lay the groundwork for a long-term solution to the funding problems, CGA said, including temporarily accelerating distributor payments into the fund, temporarily reducing non-core expenditures, requiring program participants to be given at least 90 days' notice of future reductions, prohibiting future borrowing from the Beverage Container Recycling Fund and retroactively restoring proportionate reductions through June 30.
