NEW YORK — A&P yesterday launched a new line of Premium Gold Angus Beef, becoming the exclusive Northeastern retailer of products from Austin, Texas-based PGA Beef, a supplier of genetically certified Black Angus products. The new full line of cuts will include grinds, steaks and roasts at 350 A&P, SuperFresh, Waldbaum’s and Food Emporium locations throughout the Northeast. The launch will be supported by a 12-page flyer geared toward the upcoming summer grilling season, in-store point-of-sale materials highlighting the cattle’s verification program, and a triple-money-back guarantee. Black Angus ranchers have managed during the past two decades to build an image of quality around the name and the breed, but as the popularity of Angus products has grown, the breed has become ever more diluted, representatives from both A&P and PGA said during a press briefing and luncheon accompanying the launch. The genetic certification processes used by PGA ensures that the products are 100% Angus cattle, promising more consistent flavor and marbling.
