WASHINGTON — Rochester Meat Co., a Rochester, Minn.-based meat processor, has recalled 188,000 pounds of ground beef products produced between Oct. 30 and Nov. 6, 2007, because the products may be contaminated with E. coli, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The contamination was discovered through an investigation initiated by the Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services and the California Department of Public Health into five illnesses in Wisconsin and one in California. The affected products are believed to have been distributed exclusively to restaurants and food-service operations and were not available for purchase in retail meat cases, according to the USDA.
