According to a report from Reuters, a lawsuit filed in the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles County accuses Kroger Co. of deceiving consumers with the labeling of its Simple Truth store brand chicken products.

The complaint contests the branding the products "cage free" and "humanely raised." The complaint claimed that Simple Truth chicken don't receive different treatment than mass-produced chickens since broilers are typically raised without cages anyway and due to the industry-standard slaughtering practices of private label supplier Perdue Farms, reported Reuters.
