WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. — Tops Friendly Markets is the first supermarket in the United States to offer a new type of ground beef with omega-3 fatty acids, the retailer announced.

GreatO Premium Ground Beef was developed to naturally contain omega-3s by feeding cattle a diet rich in the vital nutrient. A 4-oz. serving of GreatO ground beef contains 200 milligrams of omega-3s, compared to an average of 70 milligrams in grass fed beef or 0 milligrams in traditional ground beef.

“We are thrilled to partner with GreatO to bring this truly innovative product to Tops customers first,” Jim Lane, Tops’ director of meat and seafood, said in a statement. “We are always looking for ways to help our customers make more nutritious choices, and GreatO ground beef will be an ideal way for families to incorporate those good nutrients into their weekly meals.”

Customers can now purchase GreatO ground beef in one-pound packages at all Tops locations.
