US Foods has agreed to acquire the assets of Cara Donna Provision Co., a wholesale distributor of food and food related products to restaurants and foodservice customers throughout New England.

Family owned for three generations, Cara Donna serves approximately 1,300 customers in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine and Connecticut.

The Cara Donna location in Braintree, Mass. will remain open through the summer to ensure a smooth transition, after which the business will shift to the US Foods location in Seabrook, N. H. and Norwich, Conn.

“We see many similarities between US Foods and Cara Donna, most important of which is the hunger for bringing value to its customers,” says Joe Cara Donna III, executive vice president at Cara Donna. “With the size and scale of the company, our customers will now have access to additional products and business solutions.”

The transaction is expected to close on March 4. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
