August sees uptick in new grocery openings

WGB tracked 20 new stores during the month, up from just nine grand openings in July.

The pace of new grocery store openings picked up in August after a sleepy July.

Winsight Grocery Business tracked 20 grand openings in August, with Sprouts Farmers Market and Aldi tied at five openings each.

Discounter Grocery Outlet debuted three new stores during the month.

Rouses Markets opened a new store in Houma, Louisiana, featuring the grocer’s first drive-thru restaurant.

 

WGB counted 25 new store openings in May and June, 14 in April and 40 new stores in March.
