SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Incoming National Association of Chain Drug Stores Chairman David Bernauer, who also is chairman of Walgreen Co., Deerfield, Ill., said yesterday that the association will focus on “front-of-store” issues while fulfilling its commitment to promote the value of pharmacy. Bernauer addressed annual meeting here of NACDS, Alexandria, Va. After acknowledging that NACDS has not maximized its potential regarding front-of-store issues, Bernauer said, “That’s going to change. It has to. It’s dollars and cents. Remember this: For all of us, front-end is usually the first step in developing pharmacy customers. Most often, before a patient brings that first prescription to a store, she already will have shopped the front end, and liked it,” he said. For drug stores, “front-of-store” and “front-end” generally refers to non-pharmacy products.
