ROCHESTER, N.Y. — In her column on the retailer's website, Mary Ellen Burris, senior vice president of consumer affairs of Wegmans Food Markets here, this week focused on a new product, seasoned skewers. “For the summer season, our general merchandise merchants have found a collection of products that’s really quite different. It’s Seasoned Skewers, wooden sticks infused with fascinating flavors, for using with grilled meats, seafood and poultry,” she wrote. The skewers are from Callisons Fine Foods Co. in Seattle and are made from Maine birch wood soaked in oils and herbal extracts. Available flavors are garlic herb, citrus rosemary, Thai coconut lime, Indian mango curry, Mexican fiesta and honey bourbon. “There’s a 12-month shelf life, and 10 sticks per flavor cost $7.99,” Burris said.
