Natural Products Association Hosts 2nd California Natural Products Day
January 1, 2018
The Natural Products Association (NPA)—the trade association representing the entire natural products industry in California and across the country—will host the 2nd Annual California Natural Products Day in Sacramento on Wednesday, June 12. This event is free for attendees and open to the media. As one of the largest economies in the world, and home to many companies making and selling natural products, California plays a significant role in the industry. Companies doing business in the Golden State continue to face legislative and regulatory challenges, making it more important than ever to communicate with state senators and representatives. Natural products industry stakeholders will meet with California legislators during this event to discuss the issues that matter most to the industry. NPA CEO John Shaw will be on hand to lead the day’s activities, and he can provide expert comment on key issues facing California consumers and businesses. The labeling of genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, in food products is a hot topic with everyday Americans. NPA recently took the lead among the industry trade groups by calling for a national standard on GMO labeling for foods. Shaw can talk about why NPA took this vital position, and the importance of living a natural and healthy lifestyle. In addition, Gov. Jerry Brown recently proposed reforms "to strengthen and restore the intent of Proposition 65 (The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986)," adding that "Proposition 65 is a good law that's helped many people, but it's being abused by unscrupulous lawyers." Shaw can discuss the impact this law has had on the ability of dietary supplement makers to do business in California, and NPA’s views on the proposed changes in the legislature.
