Supervalu's products are now arriving at grocery store shelves across the Eastern region with a much smaller carbon footprint, thanks to the recent addition of 35 Class 8 Volvo trucks that operate on compressed natural gas (CNG). The fleet is the largest of its kind on the East Coast, and the company plans to add another 20 trucks next year.

To power the new trucks, TrilliumCNG built and will operate a fast-fill CNG station at Supervalu's distribution center in Mechanicsville, Va., where the fleet is based. Taken together, this effort will reduce the fleet’s annual oil consumption by more than 1 million gallons and result in 1,300 fewer tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
