The Save Mart, Lucky, and FoodMaxx supermarket chains are launching a rewards program that enables shoppers to earn movie tickets or stream films on their digital devices.

Running through February 7 at stores throughout California and Northern Nevada, shoppers will receive a Fandango movie reward for every $25 spent on specially marked items in a single transaction.

Customers can use the reward as a ticket to visit a theater or stream any movie on the VUDU platform. Fandango Buy Me tags are featured on participating frozen, dairy and deli items, including ice cream frozen pizza, cheese, and yogurt. Rewards are redeemable up to a $13 value.

VUDU offers access to more than 200,000 new releases and catalog movies and TV shows. Los Angeles-based Fandango Media, which owns VUDU, sells movie tickets via its website or through a mobile app.

The promotion limits rewards to four per household and shoppers must make their choices by March 31 and redeem the reward by April 30.

The participating banners are owned by the Modesto-based Save Mart Cos. The Save Mart chain has 81 stores across California and Northern Nevada; Lucky has 66 stores in Northern California; and FoodMaxx has 53 stores in the San Francisco area and Central Valley.

The program is the Save Mart Cos. second movie rewards promotion in the past 18 months. The operator ran a similar initiative in 2021.
