FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- Recent security breaches are weighing heavily in retailers‘ decision-making processes when it comes to POS system purchases, according to the 2007 North American Retail POS Terminal Study from IHL Consulting Group here. Retailers want POS systems that are payment card industry (PCI) compliant to avoid situations like those experienced recently by TJ Maxx and other retailers, said the study. Overall, the PC-based POS market in North America experienced an 8% shipment increase in 2006, the study reported. Replacements by retail giants like Kroger and Wal-Mart Stores generated the majority of shipments for the grocery, supercenter and mass merchant segments.
