Wegmans to Test RFID for Prescriptions: Report
Wegmans Food Markets is planning to test radio frequency identification tags for prescriptions, according to RFID Journal.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Wegmans Food Markets here is planning to test radio frequency identification tags for prescriptions, according to RFID Journal. The retailer’s goal is to make the handling of those orders more accurate and faster. The Journal said a Wegmans pharmacy processes about 2,400 prescriptions a week, with some stores ranging up to 5,000. The supermarket chain intends to tag and track individual bottles, and monitor their movement through the pharmacies. Wegmans plans to use knowledge gained from its use of RFID for meat tracking in implementing the pharmacy test.
