The 50,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art, energy-efficient store features an artisan bakery, floral department, massive full-service deli, made-to-order sushi station, Greek olive bar, made-to-order pizzas and salads, and more. It also employs 175 associates.

“The new D&W Fresh, which offers more than 50% fresh food offerings, is the ultimate D&W Fresh Market experience, with an incredible variety of fresh foods and an exciting and state-of-the-art atmosphere,” said Scott Stegink, store director of the new D&W Fresh Market, in a release. “Friends and family can meet for a casual breakfast or lunch. Parents can bring their children for healthy snacks. The beautiful indoor and outdoor cafe seating areas are perfect settings to enjoy innovative and exciting natural, local and specialty foods, and free Wi-Fi.”

From LED lighting and lighting controls with remote access, to daylight harvesting to maximize energy conservation, to “smart coolers,” more environmentally friendly packaging, and extensive recycling practices, this store runs on an energy-efficient platform in every department, the release said.

Among its fresh offerings are locally grown produce and over 80 organic items; a full-service deli with a hand carving station for meats; a 12-foot case with hand-tossed pizza and fried, baked or rotisserie chicken; a self-serve Heat ’n Eat Meals to Go; a 14-foot soup and salad bar offering 50 choices; a full-service gelato station; and 200 imported cheeses.

The meat and seafood department has a range of premium products and fish flown in daily, and the floral department features flowers and plants from local growers. The store also has extensive pharmacy and health and beauty departments.

“D&W Fresh Market is known for its progressive, service-oriented approach to shopping, and this new location at Knapp’s Crossing will be no exception," said Dennis Eidson, president and chief executive officer of D&W parent company Spartan Stores, based here. "Time-crunched shoppers who appreciate quality foods and attractive presentations are going to be extremely impressed with everything the store offers.”
