Save Mart Supermarkets has formed a partnership with California Safe Soil to recycle the retailer’s food scraps into fertilizer.

California Safe Soil plans to build one or more facilities for processing Save Mart’s organic waste. The first plant will open by the end of 2014.

The food recycler aims to improve food safety and curtail the use of conventional fertilizers, while also reducing retailers’ costs for waste removal.
